Learn more →First Steps for Any Leak
- Shut off the fixture valve or the main valve.
- Open a low faucet to relieve pressure.
- Move valuables and mop up standing water.
- Do not touch electrical outlets or switches in standing water.
- For gas smells, leave and call the utility or 911 from outside.
Frequently Asked Questions
My water bill jumped. Is that a leak?
Often, yes. Check the meter with all water off: if it moves, water is going somewhere. A damp patch, musty smell, or running-water sound narrows it further. See our leak detection page.
Why do several drains back up at once?
That usually points to the main line, not individual drains. Stop using water, avoid flushing to test it, and call us for a main-line and camera check.
Is brown water dangerous?
Brown water after line work is often sediment and clears with flushing. Persistent brown water, especially with a metallic taste, should be checked: it can mean corrosion inside old lines.
